Daniel Kablan Duncan, the Vice President of Ivory Coast has resigned

Daniel Kablan Duncan, the Vice President of Ivory Coast has resigned from his position as confirmed by the presidency on Monday July 13.

Patrick Achi, the secretary-general of the presidency told reporters that the 77-year-old resigned due to personal reasons.

Achi said in a statement “The President of the Republic proceeded on Wednesday, July 8, to the signing of a decree terminating the functions of Daniel Kablan Duncan as vice president of the Republic. After several talks, the last of which took place on Tuesday, July 7, President Alassane Ouattara took note of this resignation and proceeded to sign the decree terminating Daniel Kablan Duncan.”

Daniel Kablan previously served as Prime Minister of Côte d’Ivoire from 1993-1999 under Henri Konan Bedié and again from 2012-2017 under the current president, Ouattara.

He resigned from his position days after the sudden death of Prime Minister Amadou Gon Coulibaly, who was also the ruling party’s candidate for October’s presidential election.

247 Nigerians Evacuated from Thailand, Malaysia Arrive in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Government has evacuated 247 Nigerians from Malaysia and Thailand via a chartered AirPeace flight APK-7813. This was announced by Mr. Gabriel Odu, the Head of the Media and Public Relations Unit of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM).

The Commission also said that even though the returnees tested negative for Coronavirus before boarding the flight, they will still proceed on self-isolation, in accordance with the NCDC’s guidelines.

Pennsylvania police officer Seen placing his knee on black man’s neck during arrest.

Another controversial arrest sparked Black Lives Matter protests in Pennsylvania after a police officer was caught on video putting his knee on a black man’s neck during an arrest.

The video of the arrest was recorded on Saturday afternoon, July 11, outside of St. Luke’s Sacred Heart Hospital in Allentown.

The viral video shows three officers forcefully trying to get the man arrested with one them holding him down with his face against the pavement, while another kneels on the man’s neck, in the same position that led to the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis back in May.

In response to the incident, about 100 protesters embarked on Black Lives Matter protests on Saturday night in Allentown, WFMZ reported. Both Allentown’s Mayor Ray O’Connell and Police Chief Glenn Grannitz reportedly showed up at that protests to ease tensions.

Lisa Marie Presley’s son and Elvis Presley’s grandson, Benjamin Keough has died from apparent Suicide.

According to TMZ, the 27-year-old died on Sunday, July 12, in Calabasas from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Benjamin, the son of Lisa and Danny Keough, was also a musician and in 2009, struck a record deal worth $5 million. He also acted in a few movies including a short film called Rod and Barry. His sister is actress Riley Keough, who’s been in a number of horror films including 2019’s “The Lodge.”

He kept quite a low profile but is well-known for his uncanny resemblance to his famous grandfather, Elvis Presley.

Nigerian man held as collateral and tortured by dreaded Pakistani gang thanks Nigerians for coming to his aid.

The Nigerian man who was filmed being tortured by a dreaded Pakistani gang after he was used as collateral has been identified as Ekenedirichukwu Innocent Chima.

A video of him has been released to assure Nigerians of his safety after a group of wealthy Igbo men came to his rescue and contacted the gang leader, Nuruz, to let him know that they will pay to secure Chima’s release. They also assured Chima that they will not abandon him in Pakistan.

Apparently, their video was shown to Chima and he also recorded a video of his own to thank the Igbo men working to save him.

He said he saw the video and thanked them for their kindness. He also thanked Nigerians and assured everyone that he’s still alive.

Recall that Chima was used as collateral by a man named Andrew. However, Andrew absconded afterwards and the Pakistani gang tortured Chima and threatened to kill him on July 10 if Andrew doesn’t return with their money.
